Nana's Chili Beans, from Kitty Christopherson Griswold : Serves 8.

1 pound pinto beans, or cranberry beans, wash and soak over night in 1 teaspoon baking soda

1-1/2 lb ground beef, sautéed till brown in 3 teaspoons olive oil

2  -    8 oz.  Cans tomato sauce, add to browned beef

3  -    Seeds each ( or flakes)  chili Tepines, crushed

2  -    Teaspoons chili powder   or to taste

1  -    Each onion, chopped

1  -    Teaspoon garlic, minced

1  -    Cube butter

Salt and Pepper  to taste

Simmer for 1 hour or more according to your taste.  If chili gets too add a little water.
